A week-long open course at The Seminary in Spring Valley, NY.
Course Description:
This course aims at helping individuals develop informed moral choices in meeting end-of-life-decisions. Each day will begin at 9:30 am with a 90-minute lecture and will meet again at 7:30 pm for a 75-minute session during which questions relating to the evening lectures and to personal experiences can be discussed.
Monday: Addressing the situation and describing the terms used in the course.
Tuesday: Non-treatment decision.
Wednesday: Advance-care planning and palliative care.
Thursday: Focus on a specific form of palliative care, namely palliative sedation.
Friday: Physician assisted death (active, voluntary euthanasia, physician assisted suicide).
The course will be taught by Hans van Delden, MD, PhD, Professor of Medical Ethics, Utrecht University, The Netherlands and Rev. Bastiaan Baan, Seminary Director, Spring Valley.
