A week-long open course at The Seminary in Spring Valley, NY.
Course Description:
This year marks the 600th anniversary of the beginning of our present cultural epoch, when the consciousness-soul is destined to unfold in humanity. A profound shift of human faculties was visible already in the generation of 1500: Columbus, Cortés, Magellan, Erasmus, Luther, Leonardo, Michelangelo, Dürer, Machiavelli and, of course, Copernicus. We will seek traces of the historical workings of the consciousness-soul in the story of a representative individual from each of the centuries of our epoch, beginning with Joan of Arc (born in 1412) to the present. But accompanying the exuberant blossoming of intellectual faculties that Rudolf Steiner indicates in the final chapter of Esoteric Science: An Outline, there has also been flowing, “quite unnoticed,” a “hidden knowledge,” a “concealed knowledge of the Grail.” So at the same time, we will consider the mighty spiritual events—beginning with a “cosmic thundering”—that have taken place in the heavenly world during each of these centuries. Finally, we will attempt to locate these two motifs, the exoteric and the esoteric, in the upheavals of the present day, and try to discern what the promise of their resolution demands.
